In 1953, our school was reformed into four-year university and the Military Engineering Department was established. The first department chairman was Professor Yan(閻振興) and the incumbent department chairman is Professor Shu(徐洪祥). Initially, this department was subordinate to the Board of Education which was reorganized to be the Common Science Department in 1955 and then was reorganized to be the Natural Science Department in 1977. In 1978, our department was assigned the teaching mission for the two-year junior college which was created to cultivate the entry-level military officers. In 1996, the Natural Science Department and the Social Science Department merged to be the University Department and our department belonged to it. After united with the Department of Surveying and Drawing, our department was renamed as the Department of Civil Engineering in 1999. We have the best teachers, including two professors, five associate professors, and five assistant professors, and two lecturers. Our department is in charge of designing the curriculum and research projects for the Department of Civil Engineering and the junior college to cultivate our cadets as specialists.
