During the early days after the founding of the R.O.C. Military Academy, Ho Ying-chin served as chief military instructional officer and Li Chi-shen served as training section executive. Both of them devoted their full attention to military training. In addition, such instructional officers as Ku Chu-tung and Chien Ta-chun played a very active role in training work..

In 1954 the academy changed over to a new four-year instructional format, and the section’s chief instructional officer concurrently served as cadet guidance officer. In this position he was responsible for military training and the management and inspection of cadets’ lives. To keep up with the educational system implemented at the West Point, the R.O.C. Military Academy combined military training with a university education, and added ten-week summer training sessions. Under a policy of “military training first,” in 1965 the academy renamed the summer training “military expertise training. “In 1974, the educational period was lengthened from four years to four years and three months. In addition, the four-year, eight-semester university system was reorganized into seven semesters in four academic years; after the eighth semester the cadets completed their military training in one year (including education in specialized fields ). In 1980 the chief instructional officer was given the new designation of general instructional officer. Afterwards in 1990, the general instructional officer served as instructional officer full-time, and no longer concurrently served as commanding officer. At this time the section was finally separated from the corps of cadets, and became exclusively responsible for military training. From 1991 to the present, the academy has restored a four-year, eight-semester system in order to meet the Ministry of Education’s university requirements. Military training is divided into two sessions every year after each semester ends.
