Exchange Programs with Foreign Military Academies:
In order to cultivate outstanding officers with advanced foreign language proficiency, we choose from among the freshmen and sophomores, cadets who excel in morality and academic studies and prepare them to attend foreign military academies. After the reestablishment of Whampoa in Fengshan, the first cadet to study abroad was Shue Chao-yong from the Academy’s 46th graduating class, who was sent to the Philippines. In the years since, we have sent cadets the South American nations of Guatemala, El Salvador, Paraguay, Honduras, and military academies in the United States, such as the Virginia Military Institute, Norwich, and the Citadel. In 2000, Cadet Lee Wu-ling was chosen to restart the exchange program with the United States Military Academy at West Point. In 2004 he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and emerged as the first West Point graduate since 1950, when the R.O.C. Military Academy relocated to Fengshan. |

By the end of 2003, ROCMA had sent more than 80 cadets abroad to nine foreign military schools. Recently, Guatemala, Paraguay and Malawi have sent cadets to study at our Academy. The cadets are Laucli from Guatemala, Aguillera from Paraguay, and Ghambi and Chinema from Malawi. This is truly a praiseworthy program undertaken by our Academy. |
